Executive coaching

You bring the agenda. I do not arrive with a topic I have decided you need.

You set the agenda; I do not bring one

Cross-sector, and deliberately open. Some people want to think through a specific decision. Some want to examine how they are making decisions generally. Some want a place to say the thing they cannot say inside their own organisation. All of those are the work.

What I do not do is hand you a framework and ask you to fill it in. You already have frameworks. What senior people usually lack is somewhere to think out loud without it becoming a political event.

Eighteen years close to decisions that were expensive to get wrong

I have been the analyst whose numbers other people acted on. The programme leader accountable for budget, timelines and a regulatory filing. The person trying to persuade an organisation of thousands to adopt something new. And latterly the researcher asking why decisions that were carefully argued kept coming out the same way regardless.

I have also made a large career bet in public, leaving a decade-long employer part way through a doctorate to finish it. Which means I am not coaching anyone through uncertainty I have avoided myself.

This fits four people, and four it does not

A good fit

  • You hold real decision authority and want a thinking partner outside your reporting line
  • You would rather set the agenda than be taught a method
  • You want someone who will say when the evidence does not support the conclusion
  • You want sustained conversation rather than a single session

Not a fit

  • You want an accredited programme with a defined curriculum
  • You are looking for therapy or clinical support
  • You want someone to confirm a conclusion you have already reached
  • You want a quick answer rather than a better question

Plainly stated: I am an experienced operator and researcher, not an accredited coach. If that distinction matters to you, it should. There are excellent accredited coaches. What I offer instead is judgement built from doing the work.
